Michael Starostin

Graphic artist, realism painter, the honored worker of arts of Yakutia, one of the authors of the state flag of the republic.

In 2019, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. Since 2000 he has been working at the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Art. Michael has his own, recognizable, unique style. In his works, he utilizes different styles: realism, abstractionism, expressionism. He works in different genres — still life, narrative art, landscapes. The North is the main focus of his art. The artist takes inspiration from the history, mythology and culture of the northern peoples. Often refers to ethnographic and historical works. Through the man of the North, Michael reveals the universal themes of Love, the nature of Good and Evil, a change of seasons. The image of a traditional Yakut inhabitant is visualized in his paintings. The characters of the paintings are usually fishermen, hunters, nomads from the past. Mikhail also gives various lessons: drawing, plastic anatomy, printed graphics techniques, and the basics of computer graphics. His works are held in the collection of the National Art Museum of Yakutia, the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow House of Nationalities, Heilongjiang Association for the Development and Study of Russian Painting (Harbin, China), Anchorage Museum (Alaska, USA), as well as in private collections in a number of countries (England, Germany, France, Canada, USA, China, Japan, etc.). He actively takes part in regional, all-Russian and foreign art exhibitions.
