Tender Women Art Group
A creative group founded by artists Alexandra Artamonova and Evgenia Lapteva
The art group Tender Women was founded in 2008 by Evgenia Lapteva and Alexandra Artamonova, both born in 1987 in Kaliningrad. They graduated from the Institute PRO ARTE, St. Petersburg.
Tender Women is one of the few artists in Russian art who deal with gender problems in a consistent manner. They explore the whole complex of myths, ideas, and mass beliefs about what a woman is, what is expected of her and what functions are assigned to her, what system of obligations she is burdened with and what finally remains of her. A series of performances ranging from an exploration of purely feminine subject matter to meditative, often painful, and sensual performances on the female body and corporeality as such, on the traumatic and intense experiences of the body in connection with childbirth and the relationship between the body and other natural matter and substances. Artifacts associated with a particular performance are used as counterpoints, maximal points, sharpening or concentrating the experience of the artists.
Alexandra and Evgenia are participants in many exhibitions both in Russia and abroad.
