A photographer with an ethnographic bent. In his projects, Alexander Matveev focuses on natural and urban landscapes, exploring the interconnections and relationships of migrants and born inhabitants of the Kaliningrad region with the surrounding cultural, historical, urban, and natural context.
Member of the Kaliningrad Union of Photographers. He’s been collaborating with the local media for a long time. His works are included in the catalogs of important regional social and cultural photo projects.
Participant of the project on the development of the Vishtynetskoe Lake — Romintskaya Pushcha transboundary nature area. The works from the series Prussian Winter are the author’s business card; they were demonstrated at the First Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art in the category «Fidelity to place» in the Garage Museum (Moscow). Thanks to this exhibition, Alexander Matveev was included by the curator from Japan, Yuka Hasegawa, in the top 10 Russian contemporary artists.
In 2020, Alexander Matveev’s photographic works from the series Kaliningrad Migrants were exhibited in Berlin at one of the venues of the large-scale biennale European Month of Photography (EMOP).
