Nikolay Chochchasov

Sculptor

Author of more than 40 sculptures erected in Yakutia and Buryatia. The most famous monuments include «Lena River», «Karina», «Dvornik» and «Dandelions». The sculptor took part in the creation of silver «Elleys», statuettes, resembling the Oscar’s statuette. The first silver «Elley» was given to Leonardo DiCaprio, the second went to George Martin, director of «Game of Thrones». Initially, Nikolay wanted to create cartoons and was even going to enter Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, but decided to develop his talent and entered the Repin State Academy instead. The sculptor’s grandfather was a folk artist and a bone cutter. They made his first work together.

It was a granite bust of Yuri Prokopyev, a Soviet politician, in Verkhnevilyuysk village. He also calls sculpture his hobby. He can come to the workshop both to work and to relax by doing what he loves most. For Nikolay, being a sculptor is a worthy way of life. While working, he likes listening to music, ranging from rock to 80s pop music. The most favorite material is the material with which he has not yet been able to work. The sculptor dreams of making a horse statue and his own personal exhibition. «Inspiration is an emotion, an experience. It could be a book, or it could be a painting or some other sculpture. Maybe just a person, communication with him or something as simple as a sunny day.»
